We offer our level 1.0 class once a month, on a Tuesday or Thursday from 7-9 pm. Our 2015 Winter/Spring term runs from January until the end of May. $95 for two hours of instruction.
Jump-start your beginning level projects in this technique-focused class. We suggest all students take this orientation as their first step into upholstery.
We’ll cover common upholstery materials, tools and how to use them safely, beginning techniques, as well as tips and shortcuts to give your projects that professional look in this introductory level class! It is the ideal springboard to our intermediate courses such as the ottoman, bench and chair classes! Our instructor will customize the topics covered to the interests of the group: learn which textiles to use in your upholstery, how to estimate yardage, cover buttons, sew welting and double welting, and recent changes in California law that allow you to have fire safe AND natural furniture in your home! You will leave class with a sample appropriate for use as a small bulletin board.
Students should bring 1/2 yard (or more) of fabric that you find inspiring. Consider a contrast fabric for your welt cord. Joona has fabric for sale, as well.
Tool kits are available for purchase after the class, if you want to jump right in and get started!
